Gouges are used in cohesive soils and on an open borehole. Gouges can provide easy and fast information about the shallow soil structure. The samples have a small volume, but are a perfect indication for description of a profile. Its maximum depth is between 5 and 10 metric meters. An example of the gouge can be found within the section on hand drill.
